A couple weeks ago, I read a post that included Mark Zuckerbergโs famously stated, "๐๐ค๐ช๐ฃ๐๐๐ง ๐ฅ๐๐ค๐ฅ๐ก๐ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ช๐จ๐ฉ ๐จ๐ข๐๐ง๐ฉ๐๐ง." Zuckerberg made this comment at the age of 22, and it sparked a cultural undercurrent of ageism in the workplaceโone that is very much alive and kicking (literally and figuratively if you ask some of my GenX peers) today.
After being reminded of this statement, it didnโt take me long to think about this in a broader context. Is โsmartโ really the whole story?
Younger employees are smart in ways that matter. They bring a fresh lens to the world, one shaped entirely by the digital age. Their ability to adapt quickly, leverage new tools, and see opportunity in disruption, makes them invaluable.

Wisdom doesnโt come from an algorithm or an online course. Itโs earnedโthrough time, experiences, reflection, and lessons learned the hard way. Wisdom comes from navigating complexity, weathering storms, and growing from those moments that challenge everything you thought you knew.

The innovation and fresh perspective of younger employees paired with the seasoned judgment and broader perspective of more experienced colleagues create an unbeatable combination. Together, they can tackle problems that neither could solve alone.
